Sinkhole Causes Accident and Injuries

We take for granted the condition of the roads we travel. We rarely think twice about how the road could affect our daily routine. Unfortunately, when a road isn’t properly maintained, it can cause major damage to a vehicle as well as injury or death to those in the vehicle. Recently, a woman was injured when the pavement collapsed under her vehicle and her car fell into a sinkhole. The cause of the sinkhole was a leak in a privately owned water line.

Andrew McCarthy, who had been walking along St. Mary’s, was able to pull Davis from her car before police arrived.

“We just walked up from the Old Market, heard a little crack, didn’t think anything of it,” McCarthy said. He heard someone yelling from the car and saw Davis in her passenger seat.

“I took my sandals off and couldn’t feel the bottom of the water. So I just came on the other side of the vehicle and pulled her out.” McCarthy said Davis had scrapes on her forehead.

She was taken to Creighton University Medical Center for treatment of a head injury, not considered severe. A hospital spokesman said she has since been released.” – omaha.com

Cars are damaged and people are injured every day as a result of poor road conditions. In many instances, the car accident could have been prevented if the road was clear of major hazards. Since many roads are often maintained by the city or state, they will do their best to make sure blame is placed on the driver, not the road. If you feel poor road conditions contributed to your car accident or injury, contact the lawyers at Eason & Tambornini, A Law Corporation for a free consultation.
