Child Pedestrian Injured While Crossing the Street

Streets and parking lots are extremely dangerous, especially for young children. Mothers juggling groceries and little hands, children who insist on running when they should be walking, lack of attention to the surroundings, and even compliant children holding their parents’ hands are all susceptible to danger on the road. Just this past week, a mother and her two young children were crossing the street when one child walked into a moving vehicle’s side and was knocked down.

“A 6-year-old boy was injured Wednesday as his mother was leading him and a sibling across West Main Street between Second and Third streets.

Police responded to the 2:53 p.m. report of an injury accident, according to Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock.

The officers learned the mother was attempting to cross Main Street in the middle of the block with two young children, the chief said. She was holding the hand of one child who, in turn, was holding the hand of the second child.

As they were crossing, an eastbound vehicle approached. The mother and the child in her grip saw the vehicle and stopped. The second child did not. He walked into the moving vehicle’s side and was knocked down, the chief said.

His mother then carried him to the south side of the street.

The child suffered minor abrasions to both legs and was taken by Madison County EMS to Baptist Health Richmond where he was examined and released, the chief said.

The driver stopped and checked on the child’s status and then left the scene. – richmondregister.com

While the driver briefly stopped to check the status of the child, she did not identify herself or stay at the scene of the accident. This is a crime in most states. The trauma of a young child being hit by a car is more than most can handle. In addition to bodily injuries, there is also psychological trauma. Our Sacramento pedestrian accident lawyer at Eason and Tambornini are sensitive to scenarios like this and work with each one of our clients to make sure they receive compensation to cover both medical bills and emotional treatment.
