Light-Rail Security Increases After Shootings

Public transportation is the mainstay of most large cities. People who work and live in and around the town use public transportation daily. With the increase in usage also comes an increase in crime. While incidences of crime are rare, they do occur. Two shootings took place this year on Sacramento’s light-rail commuter trains, and travelers do not feel safe. The city of Sacramento is increasing its security presence on the light rail to help prevent future crimes from happening.

“Sacramento Regional Transit plans to increase security presence on light-rail commuter trains during nights and weekends.

The Sacramento Bee reports Tuesday that the move is in response to feedback from rail riders who don’t feel safe during those hours. The concern arose after two unusual shootings aboard trains this year.

Sacramento Police Lt. Norm Leong, who oversees Regional Transit Police Services, says a security guard will be on every light-rail train running after 6:30 p.m. Two more guards will work each light-rail line as a backup for the guards aboard trains.

Four two-person teams are currently spread out over as many as eight trains.” – www.kcra.com

Thankfully, the security increase will help with crime prevention, but what happens if you are a victim of a crime on a light rail? Whether it’s paying for extended hospital stays, physical therapy, mental health bills, or any of the costs that come with an injury of this type, the Sacramento personal injury lawyers at Eason and Tambornini, A Law Corporation, will help you through the process and see that you receive excellent care and compensation for your injuries.
